West Yorkshire Archaeology Advisory Service - The Romans in West Yorkshire
Sometimes a lot of information about a site can be gathered without doing any excavation. This fort near Knottingley was identified by aerial photography and later a resistivity survey was carried out on the site. Archaeologists measured the ground resistivity at given points on a grid laid out over the site. The information gained was plotted on a computer, giving the result shown here. The playing card shape of the fort is clearly visible, as are some of the streets and structures inside.
