Castleford: The footings of the late Roman rampart

The area formerly occupied by the fort at Castleford was, in later phases, ringed by a number of defensive ditches. At some point the inner one was partially backfilled and used for the foundation trench of a massive stone wall, the footings of which can be seen here.
