West Yorkshire Archaeology Advisory Service - The Romans in West Yorkshire
Roman tents were made out of leather. Archaeologists found these few scraps of one at Castleford. Most of the tent flap has been cut away. Perhaps the Roman soldiers thought they could use the rest elsewhere and just threw these scraps away. Above the remains of the seams are two round leather pads which were used to strengthen the tent at the point where the guy rope was fastened to it.
