Calverley Old Hall, Woodhall Road, Calverley is a Grade I listed building owned by the Landmark Trust. The Manor House belonged to the Calverley family and has had a complex development, built mainly in the late-15th century. Chapel to left (before 1488), Solar Wing in middle, Great Hall to right, its timbers having been dendrochronologically dated to 1485-95; stone built with an impressive 30ft wide 6-bay hammer-beam roof unique within West Yorkshire.
History: the home in the mid-16th century of Sir William Calverley, High Sheriff of Yorkshire, who through two marriages had 17 children and added a large accommodation block onto the rear of the building with an L-shaped parlour, copying the shape of the Huntingdon Room at King's Manor in York where the Council of the North met. It remained the home of the Calverleys until the early 18th century when they took up residence at the newly built Esholt Hall.
